How/with what equipment did they detect the MAC address of the affected person?
What was the effective range of the signal?
Did it decrease with the distance squared?

I dug into this a little bit and supposedly you must take your smart phone into developer mode vs default consumer mode and then turn on bluetooth to detect all the MAC addresses in an area. It's like a network administrator setting on a desktop computer. Phone technicians will use this setting when they repair phones. I got this info from a site that stikes me as being very fake. People are sitting at a restaurants and they are amazed at all the MAC address they see around them. Anyway for a smartphone to detect a MAC address from a person that person would need to be transmitting a low power radio signal.
