Bigg Red,
In the past you have attempted to be the language moderator. Now you want to be the conversation moderator. Perhaps you should look inward as to why you feel the need to control others. Fortunately America still has a Constitution and a Bill of Rights. The first amendment of the Bill of Rights protects freedom of speech.

In reading this thread, or any other thread, I have found the scroll function to be quite useful. You should try it. Rather than trying to control others I have found it quite useful to scroll on by conversations, or posts, that don’t interest me; it might work for you as well.

I pinged Ransomnote to this post as to my knowledge she is the only moderator of this thread, other than the forum owners. If Ransomnote wishes to ban me for my post, or any other post I have made, that is her prerogative. In the meantime I believe that anyone should have conversations regarding whatever they chose including their “personal lives”. If no one is interesting no one will reply. Due to the replies that folks have made there is an interest in such conversations and you should, once again, scroll on by. Try it – it might just make your day!

Finally Bigg Red, I do have one salient question to this most edifying conservation…are you always this rude or do you save it for Wednesdays?

While I slide at times as well, I would guess BiggRed was objecting to the volume of slide posts. It’s one thing to slide now and then (I try to stick to one slide per thread), it’s another to make fifteen posts in a short time on the same personal topic. After a post or two in a slide, it would be courteous to the whole group to move it to private chatting.

It would actually benefit the slide poster, who could receive more personal, in depth comforting in private messages than most of us are willing to post on the general chat.

In the area of free speech, BiggRed has the right to state her opinion as much as you did. Berating her for speaking her mind while asserting people have the right to speak their minds is ... not logical.

Bigg Red's post seems to blend in with others post for and against slides or cat memes. By this I mean the crowd guides content indirectly by grousing about too many cat memes or slides, and sometimes recipes, gardening etc. (owls...I remember high grouse content re owl posts).

So Red's post seems to fall in the 'normal grousing' range, this time about personal lives. I confess I've not been on the thread during this holiday season enough to know if there were others with that same opinion (general grousing consenses) or not (sometimes we grouse alone). If I had really needed to talk and did so during the period which 'Red is referring to, I suppose I might feel more sensitivity toward any remarks like hers. Since I was gone 'too much' to post the content myself, I may be overlooking the importance of what might be coping/handling the holiday posts (if that was what this was) and how it feels to have others ask for less.

So, as she did not issue demands or issue personal attacks, but instead 'hoped' for less of a certain kind of post, her post doesn't seem rude to me (remember, I was away too much to know what was posted, so my apologies if my response seems calloused here). Nor do those who call for fewer slides or owl pics (yeah, I missed the whole owl thing but some still have scars...) seem rude if they express they hope to seee less.

We have in the past (the herd, that is) moderated our personal content posts to leave the floor open to Q content when possible. It's not tidy - we go this way and that, trying to find a balance. Holidays and quiet times are most prone to the pendulum swing. If more people posted agreement with 'Red then (usually) total personal posts would tend to go down, relocate to festival or email or, in general reflect the share cooperation of the group, even if there is little agreement for the need to do so (anti-grouse sentiments  - and yet still they tend to cooperate). If there's low grouse agreement, then the content continues for awhile as is. It's cooperation that makes this thread work, I think.

I recall asking at some point for FReeQs to cultivate small groups to whom they can all out vent when they need to, via email, during a time when emotions were high and someone arriving for positive input could potentially encounter others' despair (it's a timing issue). We wish we could all be on the same page at the same time but just can't be - so sometimes relocating comments can help avoid flattening the energy/optimism of others. You know, it often works as it should. Many thankQs to FReeQs for get along over such complex psyop terrain!

I don't ban anyone. I urge cooperation, patience and input that doesn't name-and-shame people whenever possible (hey if I missed some naming/shaming, I'm sorry!).

<>The first amendment of the Bill of Rights protects freedom of speech.<>

not quite...and definitely not at FR. The 1st amendent is a restriction on congress “Congress shall make no law...” and that's it.

<>Berating her for speaking her mind while asserting people have the right to speak their minds is ... not logical.<>

I didn't see where she was berated for speaking her mind, only for the content of what was said.
