My grandparents and I had the to hear Colonel Sanders hold Court on his front porch when I was about 10 or so. He looked exactly as you’d expect. He was a kindly old man and I got to shake his hand.

And you’re right about the product today. It’s awful by comparison.

I met him in 1969 at the Jacksonville Arkansas Kentucky Fried Chicken store there. A nice man. He was on his way to Fayetteville Ar to see the Razorbacks get whipped by the Longhorns. He was giving out recipe books for his side dishes.

Sanders himself hated what the Corporation he sold his product to did to his chicken... but he had no problem cashing the check.
