Amen! I couldn’t wait for the chicken to be on the table and scape the remnants off the bottom of the skillet. The crustier the better. Always left enough for the gravy made in the same grease.

“50 years ago Colonel Sanders KFC was so incredibly good I can still remember everything about it, including the gravy and mashed potatoes.”
My grandparents and I had the to hear Colonel Sanders hold Court on his front porch when I was about 10 or so. He looked exactly as you’d expect. He was a kindly old man and I got to shake his hand.
And you’re right about the product today. It’s awful by comparison.

Covid killed Southern Art, a high end restaurant in the Intercontinental Hotel in the business district part of Buckhead in Atlanta, run by chef Art Smith. They had some of the best fried chicken in the city, as well as an awesome Easter brunch. I miss them.

Dang, my very first engineering job out of college was with B&W in Barberton, OH back in ‘73. I was only there a short time before going out to the field, but I came back for a seven month assignment in North Canton about four years later. All that time there and I never once heard about “Barberton Chicken.”

I used to like Henderson’s chicken in south Dallas.

Harold’s chicken in Chicago was also pretty good.

Wife was watching one of the food competition shows on the Food Network. One of the judges said something like “If you can do as good as Publix fried chicken, you’re doing pretty darn good.” Wife and I cracked up, because they’ve been my go-to for fried chicken for a decade or so. You can’t beat a 3 piece dinner (breast, thigh, leg), two sides (generally greens and mac’n’cheese), and a Hawaiian roll for about $7.50. Feeds two around here.

swear KFC changed its recipe some years ago. Pepsi screwed up KFC when they took it over back in the 80’s. It’s never been the same since.

I’ve had Hattie B’s in Nashville before. Loved their hot chicken. I’ll have to try Prince’s next time I am there. I like Prince’s better than Hattie’s. But I like Tumble 22 in Austin better than both of them!

Yes, the size of the pieces was exceptional, as was the quality of the meat. Incredibly juicy and the breading was absolutely full of flavor.
The gravy was lumpy and perfect, every bit as good as the chicken seasoning.
It was a dream to dip that giant chicken leg in the gravy!
