The story line SEEMS to be historic, but I confess . . . after finishing those 6 seasons, I've started on The Vikings of Valhalla.

American men must rejuvenate the will to kill the enemy if we are EVER going to save the USA that we of the 40's, and 50's generation remember.
Of COURSE there was nothing unsafe about drinking from a hose, or biking without military safety garb, or sharing everything from clothing to food with our friends.
We were healthy and normal and outside of a broken bone or two, or stitches . . . we turned out just fine.

You are confused about the time period. The Last Kingdom taxes place beginning 866 AD at the time of the Viking Dane’s invasion of Brittan and the Saxon King Alfred The Great and his working to unify all the Saxon kingdoms into one.
Ealdred and Uhtred were expelled from Bamburgh by the Viking king Ragnald in 914, they regained their lands in 920. The earls of Bamburgh were Ealdred (913-930), Uhtred (930-949), Oswulf (949-963), and others.
