Sounds good to me. I’ve had my share of living in cold climates: 4 years in Spokane, 4 years in Germany. I’m at the point where I actually look forward to July and August in Irving.
If my grandkids want a White Christmas, their parents can take them to the Gaylord in Grapevine.

That’s why they changed it to “climate change.”

Several yrs ago, transferred to a new city with an early January move. Had 3 young kids ages 6-4-2. Woke up around 1:30 a.m. only a few days after moving in. It was -15 outside and furnace was off. Temp in house in hi 50โs.
Went to basement and pilot light was out. Several efforts to restart failed. What should I do?
Had only met neighbor across street once, but called him anyway. He graciously came over, took pilot assembly apart, blew it out and reinstalled. Apparently something had clogged it up. Heat!!!! How many neighbors do you know that would come over at 1:30 am -15 outside, and didnโt know you.
That was many moons ago, and weโve both moved elsewhere, but are still good friends.

North GA and local power company is asking people to cut the thermostat back five degrees and not run unnecessary appliances.

Not worried about the cold.
When I bought this 1970s house, I heavily insulated it.
Heat pump for a/c.
Natural gas for heat.
Generac for electric backup just in case TVA cuts power.
Wife and two 70 pound standard poodles to share my bed.

I had to use my passenger side door to get in my car yesterday. Doors were frozen shut.

Global warming has blessed me here in Northern Michigan, where it’s 16 out, with a wind chill of -2!
Some of you aren’t with the program...fire up those SUV’s and let’s get some more greenhouse gases flowing!!!!!!!

it has been about 50 in my bedroom and down to -18 lately. I sleep in an unheated bedroom. Lots of blankets. Usually works out pretty good.
Usually.
Got up this AM and it was 2 degrees outside and about 12 degrees in my bedroom. I have a wood stove in the livingroom which is usually adequate.
Usually.
This morning the water in my dishwasher was frozen. Re-stoked the stove and turned on a space heater. Took a while to get comfortable.
I could get up at 3 or 4 to reload the stove, but it is hard to get out of a warm bed to do that.

This is the first year a humm-bird stayed after the cold weather moved in here on the MS Gulf Coast. We've had one little guy remain, so I wanted to figure out how to keep his sugar water from freezing. I tried a couple of those stick-on hand warmers on the bottom of the feeder, but they were lame. Yesterday morning, I got up before dawn and rigged this set-up. It's a 60 watt bulb (not an LED, of course). A short time later, I saw him sitting there on the feeder perch rail getting some early morning dinner, and he stayed for several minutes, so I know he can feel some warmth from the light. It was 22 degrees and continued windy here this morning, and he's still with us. Wish I could take a picture of him at the feeder, but my little cell phone camera is no good from a distance.

We had a 40ยฐF temp drop with blowing snow Thursday. Was -7ยฐF to -3ยฐF that night/morning depending on the reporting service in neOK/nwARk. Friday it was +7ยฐF during most of the day and evening was around +5ยฐF.
This general area has seen a lot worse for a lot longer. In previous winters we have had below -0ยฐF temps for a week. Several of the previous ones had a 50ยฐF to 60ยฐF temp drop in a few hours.
Luckily, this 'freeze' is a short one.
That fence post in Kansas doesn't do much to slow one of the blue-northers.
Next Thursday the forecast is for 65ยฐF.

We often visited my grandmother in the 50s. Only heat in her house was the kitchen stove powered by coal. I remember sleeping in a bed heavy with so many quilts you couldn’t turn over. She had an outhouse too.
