Nothing wrong with most of the rear-drive setups except for winter traction. Some of the front drives aren’t real great in that area either. Very few inline engine setups in cheap rear drives & the transverse engines create their own service headaches. AWD is good except rather complicated, expensive, & has it’s own unique service headaches. The auto industry seems perfectly satisfied with not necessarily building what is practical or what the public wants. As an example: the latest electrics.

Living in the northeast I had a rear-wheel drive decades ago and will never get another; any front-wheel drive is better because the weight of the engine is over the drive wheels. Our weather is just too crappy for rear-wheel drive vehicles and motorcycles.
