3:00 AM SAT. Morning.....-5 windchill -36

I've never seen it this bad! Any time the temps drop into the 20’s and teens isn't good and you can, as you mentioned, notice inside temps show the difference especially if there's wind.
You might consider putting a pan of water on low simmer on your stove to rise the inside temps, heat adheres to moisture so it ‘stays’ and is warmer. I first do a rapid boil then lower it to a simmer so there's constant moisture, it really makes a difference.

The wind has really been relentless up here....and the gusts have taken down trees in various places. My friend got home from work last night to find a tree down across her driveway into her yard so had to park at her neighbors. No to mention the power outages in various places.

I closed off all rooms except the open kitchen living room area. Even so I expect my heating bill to be high.

____________________________________________

It’s not quite that cold here in the Niagara Falls, Ontario, area (only 16° F, feels like -8°), but our mobility has been crippled. Everything has been completely closed since early yesterday. The winds are still very high and there’s another foot of snow to come. We have no idea how much snow has already fallen because it’s blowing around too much to tell. I have drifts of 6 feet in the front yard, but nothing on my back deck. The whiteout conditions are so bad that it’s not safe for the snowplow drivers to be on the roads yet.

My neighbour’s gazebo blew off their deck over my 8 foot privacy fence and into my back yard yesterday, and my hot tub cover was torn off its latches and blown over the fence on the other side and into the other neighbour’s yard. I’ve seen things flying through the air that you never see in the air. Mercifully, nobody was hurt and nothing was damaged (that I can tell) from the flying objects. I walked 100 yards to the subdivision mailbox yesterday and experienced snow blindness. I had to stand still until I gained my bearings and could see something that told me which direction to walk to get back home. I’ve been through 3-4 storms that dropped 8 feet of snow in 3 days and that was nothing compared to this. The wind is making it extremely dangerous to be outside on foot or in a vehicle.

My son is a hydro worker and he’s out there in this mess restoring power to homes without it. I have power and a standby generator anyway so I’m safe inside. I sure wish my son didn’t have to be out there, but he’s doing hero work today. He thinks his work restoring electricity will continue well into tomorrow, so our Christmas gathering will be delayed until everyone in the town has power again. He was invited back to work in May after refusing to be vaccinated and being off on unpaid leave for 20 weeks, so I’m just happy that he’s working again. I hope he isn’t designated to be the guy in the bucket today but, as almost the youngest in the crew, he may be. I’ll stay busy so I don’t have to think about that. Prayers that all of our FReeQ family stays safe and warm.
