Reggie Lewis died because he snorted TOO much COCAINE.
“Doctors who examined the late Boston Celtics player Reggie Lewis say they believed his heart quite likely was damaged by cocaine before the former Dunbar High basketball star collapsed and died of heart failure near Boston in 1993.”
He died because his heart gave out.
That allegation was discredited, and autopsy findings were inconsistent with this. He was diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy - which is genetic. It would be a particularly bad idea to use cocaine if you have an underlying cardiac condition, but there is no good evidence that cocaine use was the underlying cause of his death.
