That depends on where we are in history. It is my understanding that the fall of America is going to happen just before the coming of the Christ, so that leads me to think that may be where we are in Biblical history, especially when you consider how far along the lines the rebellion the rest of the world is.
However, I could be wrong and America will recover some form before falling again and then the Messiah comes. Anything can happen, in my view on that point.
I think we will have faded by the time Christ returns, and that there will be a surveillance state on steroids in place worldwide.
What I think is of a more immediate concern is that so much material is available in digital form that people aren’t buying books, so hard copies will be harder to find. Then there is the problem of file formats changing, leaving tons of data in unreadable formats. We also have the “decolonization” movement trying to memory hole Shakespeare and other dead white authors, and then there is the politicization of textbooks leading to badly written textbooks, effort rather than results graded (leading to insanely busy box-checking students), and an odd sort of war being declared on mathematics.
There are plenty of good reasons here and now to justify collecting books of worth.

Most evangelical theologians I know believe that in eschatology no reference is made to America, although other countries seem to be, e.g. Russia.
If true, on the overall timeline I wonder if America falls “JUST before” Christ returns, or decades / centuries before. (I guess we’ll find out some day.)
Why, yes, that is so clearly stated in the Bible. < /sarcasm>
