You are too optimistic and that is more dangerous than knowing when the time has come to pick or choose what happens next. Optimism is a way of thinking, not of doing.
When you go into battle you better think you can win. Believing you will be defeated is a pretty good way to help ensure you will be. Being optimistic also doesn't mean you don't realize you have to do battle. What is at stake is way too important to accept that defeat is inevitable. It's not.
We are dealing with ignorance, laziness, uninformed self-interest, and normalcy bias - all mixed in with indoctrination by the 'education' system, media, social media platforms, and an entrenched expansive government bureaucracy. Yes, it's a mess, but we can turn this around. Three years ago, under Trump, a great many people were optimistic - with good reason. The whole nation didn't die in November 2019. We need to fight back.
