Mills Lane, the legendary boxing referee famous for using the phrase “Let’s get it on,” has died at 85 years old.
Lane’s son, Tommy, told the Reno Gazette Journal that his father, who suffered a stroke 20 years ago, had been in hospice for the last week.
“He took a significant decline in his overall situation,” Tommy Lane told the outlet. “It was a quick departure. He was comfortable and he was surrounded by his family.”

Damn shame. I remember him from Celebrity Death Match years ago.
He seemed like such a fine and fair gentleman. God speed.
I thought that was Marvin Gaye?
Reno has lost a great champion. He was the real deal, a true Columbo, a fantastic DA, and the fairest of judges. He was a great boxing ref too!
Gaye’s estate will be filing suit, as soon as they’re done with the whole Robin Thicke / Farrell Williams thing
Jabbarooskie?

Good grief.
One of the best boxing refs of all time, *and* a superior court judge.
“Corner ready? Corner ready? LET’S GET IT ON!”

I was telling my wife of his death. She was not a great boxing fan…but as soon as I described him and his voice she knew who he was.
He seemed a good referee. Rest In Peace.
He also was a tv judge on the “Judge Mills Lane” show for a while.
RIP.
Yes - was going to mention that. It was successful until they changed the intro to something very corny. I noticed they removed that in the rerun package and put back the original - only the closing still has that song for that season’s show.
