“Hold out for the GE kitchen of the future”
Give me the kitchen of the past.
One where my smart toaster doesn’t turn on my radio.
Parts keep breaker and taking months to get replacements.
Things were made to last more than months
Refrigerators shelves were steel and could withstand kids better than these plastic shelves today.
User manuals were all in english etc etc
Lowe’s is usually pretty good about that stuff. Also...the Lowe’s salesman (cook top) said they’re way behind on filling appliance orders, so who knows how long you would’ve waited for a dent-free model.
While i was a GE aero contractor in the late 80’s and 90’s, our automated presourcing system improperly converted UOM and the order ended up being a truck load of very fine wire. The company worked overtime 24/7 for months to deliver it. GE only needed a fraction of the wire but ate the whole load. It is probably still sitting in a warehouse up on the hill.
If you use an amex card they will cancel the payment. very little hassle. Also GE is chinese now Haier i beleive so it probably will be off on the spec anyhow and not fit.
I have a nearly 3 year old order for a jointer with Grizzly.
I’m holding them to the price and I’ll wait until hell freezes over. ,
I have a customer who has been waiting on backordered shirts since May.
Welcome to Biden’s America.
What do you need an oven for?
= = =
Put head in it for suicide.
I’d have to replace all the cabinets on both sides of the kitchen, top and bottom so they’d match whatever they’d put in, all the tilework on top of counters, the cooktop, the microwave/oven combo. The cabinets surround the sink and they’d have to replace the sink, I’ve been told all this by a contractor. You can’t just do one side and make it match.
My Sears microwave finally died.
It was around $300-$400 about 40+ years ago. (WOW)
Got it and then wondered what good was it. Heat water?
Family and 3 kids - it did get used - a lot.
Physically stout. Good long life.
Got a $80 replacement Magic Chef. When it goes, I’ll consider it an ‘Expendable’, won’t lose a tear for an old friend.
In the late fifties, My grandmother was the first in town to have a brand new GE kitchen. All blue, stainless steel counter tops, fridge, oven and wall oven. Dishwasher, and sinkerator. garbage disposal. The works. I remember a steady stream of town residents coming to see the “new age” miracles of a new kitchen. My brother owns the house now. And the stainless steel counter tops are the only remaining evidence of a bygone era.
Ha, I just got one and I love it
Hope it works out for you!
Well, here’s the upshoot of this column.
Because when I posted it I had to put in a link I used the GE website.
Some executive saw that and the day after I posted this I got an email from a GE exec who said they were going to work on getting me my oven, should get it in a couple of days.
Quite frankly I was shocked to know that someone outside FR would see this because of a GE website posted but if they can get me the oven, fine, great in fact! :)
Then I got a call the next day from a GE exec who said they are working on getting me my oven and I should get it very soon, hopefully this week!
Truthfully I sounded a little skeptical and my ‘thank you’ to me sounded a little disingenuous but I did hope that was so.
Today I had Lowes come out and measure the oven and they told me a 30 inch definitely won’t fit, my cabinet itself is only 28 inches wide!
I was horrified thinking I waited 5 months but ordered the wrong oven and now it was about to be delivered! I called GE got on a list for them to call me back (few hours went by) and I looked up my original order. It was not 30 inches but 27 inches.
This all started because I had a repair tech from GE come out, the microwave stopped working. He told me the whole combo was old enough that before long the oven would quit and they don’t make the parts for this kind of oven anymore. He suggested I order a new one, and at that time gave me the model number that would fit and I ordered it. I had forgotten all this and for some reason I thought my oven was 30 inches wide. I told the guy from Lowes the one I ordered was 30 inches wide and he said it won’t fit. Your cabinet is 28 inches wide.
I got the call from GE and gave her the order number to my order thinking I might have to cancel it and start all over. I also gave her the model number of the oven I have in place presently.
She said the one I ordered will fit.
She also said she sees a new notation on my order that the oven just came in and they will be calling me today or tomorrow to let me know the delivery will be in a couple of days.
I am stunned and I do so hope this oven fits and this is a done deal!
:)
Great!
Wow, amazing. Wonder if a GE person reads FR, or if they have an AI program that scours the web for their site?
Cool!
Or perhaps, warm, as this is a microwave oven. ;-)
Withholding the comment I want to make out of civility..........
Hope you at least issued apologies to everyone you dealt with due to your ..........
Gah! That’s a putrid color.
