Yes, they do. They are great alert, guard animals and will range with sheep and goats and they have a life span of about thirty years.

I had a friend whose donkey killed some of their smaller breed goats. We stick with our Great Pyrenees. Great big teddy bears, but don’t mess with their herd!

Donkeys also have a mean bite that they'll use in defending against predators. It's not just the kick.

A small scale rancher near me has a donkey running with horses normally but occasionally puts him in with the cattle. If a person has a few acres of heavy brush, a donkey or two will do a nice job of clearing it out.

Predators in my area are primarily coyotes but also bobcat and black bear on rare occasions. When I moved in here, one of my new neighbors claimed there’s a wolf pack established about 5 miles from here. That’s 2 or 3 mountains distant.
