I ran the numbers for African countries through Financial Times (my go-to site for COVID case and death rates) and the difference in COVID deaths between US, EU, Israel and the African countries is astounding.

One exception: South Africa looks like the EU & USA.

Yes, South Africa is something of an outlier compared to the rest of sub-Saharan Africa. It has higher obesity and diabetes rates, older population, more Covid testing and better record-keeping than the rest of sub-Saharan Africa.
