At about this time, on December 26, 1776, Washington and his troops, having crossed the Delaware River overnight and marching nine miles to Trenton, NJ, in a snowstorm, are fighting the Hessians and taking the town, in a huge victory by American forces.

Enlistments in the Continental Army were due to expire on January 1, 1777, and in one week it looked like the entire fight for independence would dissolve.

Winning the Battle of Trenton turned the tide for American morale in the colonies to continue the struggle against the British.

In the spirit of all that these brave Americans overcame on December 25-26, 1776, we in 2022 have to press forward to preserve the nation they secured for us.
