I don’t think that the restoration of the Sacrifice is the Abomination that maketh Desolate.
Malachi 3 prophecies the restoration of the sacrifice as a good thing. (The Jews attempting to obey their religion)
I think the Abomination will be some kind of open worship of a false god that is done in the Temple.
That would seem natural to Malachi who had no revelation of the Gospel of Christ. I believe that the Essenes of Qumran were preparing the way for Messiah, that John the Baptist, cousin of Jesus, was the foretold 'Second Teacher of Righteousness.' Scholars say that that is impossible because their doctrinal scrolls do not agree with Jesus' teachings. But they worked with the revelation that they had been given: the Law. John the Baptist followed Malachi in claiming to prepare the way for The One. Yet even John once asked if Jesus was The One.
Only Jesus could outline the scope of the Gospel. None other possessed that calling. :)
