Because it’s closer to the camera.
Take a look at the rectilinear halo orbit they’re going to use to hang out the future Gateway lunar station. Orbital mechanics are amazing.
Lunar orbits are very small due to lunar precession and orbital perturbations. Satellites in lunar orbit need a lot of fuel to stay in orbit.
It’s literally a GoPro. No joke. An off the shelf GoPro.
It’s a shame that they went cheap on the cameras.
This seems kinda odd, like this is a big deal... We did this more than 50 years ago, ya know.
Didn’t Artemis kill Orion in Greek mythology? That’s what Homer said in The Odyssey.
The focus looks like it is set to take pictures of Artemis itself. Looking at distant items is like driving with your reading glasses on.
Yup. Holy back to Apollo, Batman.
We finally know what’s on the other side of the moon!
And there a still thousands of Flat Earthers out there. Can they ever be shown the folly of their “theories”?
Where are the stars? Just like Apollo 11 moon shots, there were no stars visible.
I’ve not seen evidence of a single decent camera on the craft.
Quite disappointing.
Yeah, and at the most interesting minutes they TURNED THE CAMERA AWAY FROM THAT VEIW. WTF?
That was my complaint with the otherwise amazingly cool little helicopter they’ve been flying around on Mars: no video! Its only camera is a navigation camera with a low frame rate. So all we’re getting are basically still images.
How can you go to all that trouble to fly a friggin’ helicopter around on Mars and not equip it with a video camera? It’s mind boggling.
I guess it’s about prioritizing mission critical items within weight limitations, but still...
The images of the Moon were the most disappointing.
Pathetic, actually.
But I’m good with it if they at least equip the manned mission with decent cameras.
I wonder if the spacecraft has a builtin sound synthesizer to make the shutter sound.
