Yes, the our State Department was recommending Larium back in the early 1990s when I was leaving for SE Asia. I read up on it and decided against it. Took the doxy instead.

I ran into a nice American lady there who did take the Larium and was still having horrible side effects long after stopping it. She was secretarial staff and had terrible tremors in her hands from the neurological damage and was afraid she would lose her job. I felt so sorry for her. I'm glad you did not get those side effects, and so sorry for all our military who did.

Non-Compliant_Deplorable: Yes, its newer. As chloroquin-resistant malaria grew more and more prevalent, they had to come up with other drugs.

There are mefloquin-resistant strains in some areas now. Nothing seems to last forever.

I usually tell my wife that I was severely neurologically damaged long before I ever went into the military!
