I found out that not only is SS not taxed, but any pension income up to $35k is also not taxed. So, if you can keep your “taxable” income below that, you’re golden. And because there is a state income tax for the rest of ‘em, real estate and sales taxes are low. In our case, 32 acres, a home and new 30x60 shop building, two streams and a LOT of lumber (which is saleable) costs us far less than $500 a year in real estate taxes.
