Wonder if it is based off the Raspberry Pi motherboard technology, which might explain the shortages as of the last few months.
I doubt it. He'll pay off the Raspberry Pi people if need be. I bought a Pine Phone, which is a Linux based phone. Not exactly Raspberry Pi, but similar hardware. Performance is poor. I cannot find a phone vendor who will get it going as a phone. The Pine chat boards are for propeller heads a level or two above me. There is a Pine + with better performance, but also more $$$.
Microsoft and HP both tried SmartPhone/Pad competitors with little success. What Apple and Google did are NOT trivial. Both have now gone to custom processor chips that reduce power usage while increasing performance. I don't see Musk coming up with a true competitor, only another Android knock-off, if anything.

I use Raspberry Pi’s for special projects, 3’s were pretty affordable at one time, 4’s are outrageous if you can find them at all, be darn if I pay over a $100 for them. The last batch of Raspberry Pi’s 3’s I found were duds.
