At -40c the engine oil would be molasses and battery at it lowest output, it is a small miracle the battery was able to crank the engine and diesel was not gel.

Agreed. I was astounded that it started...no battery hookup or oil pan hookup available.As for fuel,when I arrived the night before my tank was empty so the first thing I did was fill up with locally blended diesel. At the first station I went to their diesel pumps were frozen so I had to go down the street to fill up.

Keep in mind that jet fuel is just diesel with extra additives so diesel that's good at -40 can be done.

Do what the Russians do. Build a fire under the engine before trying to start it.
