I absolutely get that. When I lived in La-La Land far from my Florida relatives every Thanksgiving I worried about not getting an invite for dinner. Thankfully, every year I did get an invite from somewhere except for once. It was about 2 PM on Thanksgiving Day and I figured my luck had run out but minutes later I got a phone call with a last minute invite so my luck did hold up.
Nowadays, I ALWAYS play host for Thanksgiving dinners to balance out all those times when I was a mere guest. My in-laws once offered to host a Thanksgiving dinner but I nixed that but in that case it was more because I know they only cook really horrible turkey.

Well done! We have always done that when we can. There is usually always a couple or few older folks who are alone. :)
