Catalonia doesn’t have a Santa Claus tradition. They have a different thing. A log of excrement comes at Christmas time and kids beat it with sticks so it will excrete candy. Their nativity displays are also all excrement themed.
It’s weird.
Oh dear! Right you are!
Of course it must have been an ancestor of the venerable Catturd family that started this charming tradition, lol.
I visited Barcelona and vicinity long ago as a young girl, thankfully in summer and missed it. My family lived in Switzerland for a few years and my best friend from the States had come to stay with us for the summer and went with us on a trip to Spain.
We had an interesting little episode in a Spanish bathroom. The “toilet” was a large round tub about 18” deep lined with beautiful blue-and-white patterned tile, with two concrete foot-shaped pedestals in the center you stood on to do your business.
There was a metal foot pedal you pushed to flush, and when activated, water poured into the tub and violently swirled about, threatening to engulf your lower extremities and knock you off your feet. There was another foot pedal to make it stop flushing. My friend panicked and kept pressing the flush pedal and it went wild. She was getting hysterical and I kept yelling over the roar of the water “You’re pressing the accelerator! Hit the brake! Hit the brake!” Until she finally pressed the “stop flushing” pedal. We joked about for years and years.
