Look up the "8.2 Ka Event" on the internet. It describes a well-documented event in geologic history. 'Ka' means K (thousands) of years ago, 6,200 years BC.

It describes glacial melting that built up two very large lakes in Southern Canada and Northern USA - Lake Agassiz, and Lake Ojibway. Ice dams broke, and the lakes emptied nearly immediately. Wikipedia states that it resulted in 10-13 FEET of permanent ocean level increase.
