"The drug Bextra, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) drug was introduced in 2001 by drug manufacturer Pfizer, and was immediately heralded as an innovative way to treat problems, such as pain relief, menstrual cramps, osteoarthritis, and arthritis. Tens of millions of Americans suffer from arthritis, therefore pain medications are essential for everyday enjoyment. Unfortunately, after the drug was prescribed to many patients, it was discovered that there were several disturbing side-effects, even one known as Stevens-Johnson Syndrome. Other side effects include possible stoke, adverse cardiovascular reactions, ulcers, and gastrointestinal bleeding. Although the drug was marketed to relieve pain in patients, the detrimental side effects were not only serious, but also dangerous."
pfizer product fined 1.95bb
Big pharma is dirtier. Here are some more:
Pfizer fined $2.3 billion in 2009 for intending to mislead and commit fraud related to illegal promotion of Bextra (pulled from market in 2005), Geodon (anti-psychotic drug), Zyvox (antibiotic) and Lyrica (epilepsy drug)
Novartis fined $423 million in 2010 for illegal marketing of Trileptal (epilepsy drug), Diovan (hypertension drug), Zelnorm (irritable bowel symptom drug was later removed from market), Sandostatin (drug mimics a natural hormone), Exforge (drug for hypertension) and Tekturna (hypertension drug).
GlaxoSmithKline fined $ 3 billion in 2011 for the illegal marketing of Wellbutrin (anti-psychotic drug), Paxal (antidepressant), Advair (asthma drug), Avandia (diabetes drug) and Lamictal (epilepsy drug).
AstraZeneca fined $520 million in 2010 for fraud related to the marketing of Seroquel (antipsychotic drug) to children. Note even though fined $523 million company made $4.9 billion on drug in 2009. Fine is just a cost of doing business in their mind.
One of the biggest Big pharma frauds, which no one has been called out, for was Roche convincing EU and US governments to stockpile Tamiflu, a drug which in trials showed not to improve patient as intended and to be no better than the placebo.
Johnson & Johnson fined $1.1 billion in 2012 for downplaying hidden risks in antipsychotic drug Risperdal dby downplaying the life threatening side effects of drug, like stroke, seizures and death. Judge found 240,000 violations of Arkansas’ Medicaid program alone.
Merck fined $670 million in 2007 over Medicaid fraud.
Eli Lilly fined $1.4 billion in 2009 for the illegal marketing of top selling antipsychotic drug Zyprexa downplaying the harm of the drug i.e. heart failure, weight gain, diabetes, especially in children.
AstraZenca fined $355 million in 2003 for bribing doctors for off brand uses of its prostate cancer drug Zoladex.
And don’t forget the Hall of Shame of “blockbuster” drugs with deaths, strokes and other adverse reactions ignored or downplayed by big pharma. Drugs like:
Vioxx
Zyprexa (see above also)
Celebrex
Livalo
Evista
Katek-has black box warning but still on market
Zoladex
Viagra- can cause blindness
Fen-phen
Fraudulent marketing includes bribing/enticing doctors to prescribe one drug over another regardless of the benefit to the patient or prescribing for off market uses that are harmful or no better than a placebo for the patient.
It is rinse wash repeat pay fine rinse wash repeat for Big Pharma. Until the companies are bankrupted and put in prison nothing will change. IMO that’s one reason FJB and his puppet masters keep extending the Covid EUA, it shields big pharma, one of their most important political donor classes. Remove the EUA and big pharma will be made to face the music.
YMBI in reading “Deadly Medicines and Organised Crime- How big pharma has corrupted healthcare” by Peter Gotzsche.
Was written in 2017 before the Covid crap but outlines exactly what Big pharma is doing. The author has been a doctor and worked on the governing agencies in Denmark he actually calls big pharma transnational criminal organizations like drug cartels.
