In 1970 we did a Reserve “summer camp” at what was then Camp Drum...near Watertown. I got talking to a Regular Army LT who had wintered over the previous winter. Back then Camp Drum was basically for Reserve and National Guard summer camps and he told me that by the end of the winter some buildings were completely buried in snow.

Nowadays the interstate up there has a semi-regular “Snowmobile Rescue Squad” that comes out to offer aid - cuz it takes NY that long to get the roads back open.

Up on the Tug Hill Plateau, it’s not unheard of for Ft Drum to send out tanks to pull snowplows out of ditches they got stuck in because they couldn’t see the road they were supposed to be plowing.
