Ya might be surprised if you start with a Query. People don’t like to be told anything.
So I usually start with:
What a year! Things seems so crazy, what do you think? (open’s a door to discussion) umm, maybe like a small handful of grain to get your pony to respond.
Then I hit them with (”I would trade a “mean tweet” for my gas, food, prices. I don’t understand what is going on.)
Let them tell you. Whichever issue you state, most have one worse.
Now they may be more responsive to, “what if?”
If you get to this point in the conversation, pull a Q. Ask questions: what and why. Don’t give them the answer, make them think. Let them come to you. Then, they are more open to listening.
You are not their answer person, they have to think for themselves now. Let them find a conclusion.

It comes down to (paraphrasing), “You can’t tell them, they have to find it for themselves”.
