Oz lost because Mastriano was such a terrible candidate. He had no business being on the ticket. He was so bad that Shapiro funded his race to ensure he'd be his general election challenger!
We should've taken the hint but we don't. We fall for this cynical ploy every time.
Oz came within 3 points of Fetterman which means he picked up a lot of votes from those who voted for Shapiro but there's only so many ticket splitters. Mastriano's 14 point loss to Shapiro doomed Oz.
Yes, candidate quality matters and sometimes really bad candidates can hurt other races as well as their own.
