Boston is physically a very small city—surrounded by dozens of close in suburbs.
Walgreens could easily close down all Boston locations and open new ones in Brookline, Newton, Cambridge, Somerville etc and not a lose in dime in revenue or profit.

Not true. Drug stores thrive on convenient locations. People go to the most conveniently located one. That's why Walgreen's in particular will pay extra for desireable corners. If a CVS popped up in the desireable spots, those without insurance restrictions will pick the CVS, and Walgreens loses out. Where we presently live, we often pick Walgreens over CVS just because CVS requires a left turn across traffic.
