Without the three locations, the council believes pharmacy deserts will be created. They say the majority of residents in those areas don't use cars to get around. "We are talking about predominantly working-class Black and brown communities that relied on Walgreens for many, many years, " said Worrell.

Gosh, wonder why they chose those particular stores for closure? (scratchin' mah head). Also wondering why "black" is capitalized but "brown" is not.

“We can use whatever leverage we have, which is our zoning code, and leverage that to get them to make sure they come back to the table,” explained Brian Worrell, the City Councilor for District 4. The Walgreens closure on River Street in Mattapan is within his district.”

No. Actually they can’t. If the applicant meets all the necessary items needed for passage under the zoning code denying said application will result in a law-suit the city will not win. The city can’t change the zoning code or pull new requirements out of their butts because they are trying to pressure a business to take an action unrelated to the current application.

Walgreens knows this and so does the city. The city is just hoping the legal fees that Walgreens would end up spending would be high enough that they would play along simply to avoid such costs and those associated with delaying construction.

I’m not familiar with local regulations and may be wrong. I was just thinking that if I can get prescription by mail (Express-Scripts.com), then they can also do my idea.

(or to seize the businesses and their inventories for themselves).

Inventories would have lasted a few days at best, less with a run on essentials, or outright looting.

I might have considered that part of Boston to be one of the not horribly bad areas of Mattapan. We Locals refer to it as ‘Lower Mills’ and after Marty Walsh became Mayor he moved very close to there. He was almost literally on the Milton Town Line.

Walsh is swine of course and is currently a member of Biden's Cabinet. I do drive through Boston from time to time but I avoid that area for traffic congestion reasons.

When the Chic-FilA stuff first hit the fan, I stopped at my local Chic-FilA for lunch. There were a few protestors across the road.

I sat at a table, and a policewoman asked if I would sit with her. I did, and she explained she was on a protection detail but she wanted to look like a regular customer.

Actually, Fascism lets you own the cows, but they dictate how you manage the cows and what you do with the milk.
