I tend to agree with much of what you quote here, but I will point out that we tea partiers were generally revolting against government overreach in general, not just taxes. We marched on DC to protest Obamacare. They ignored us before they infiltrated us.
They are trying to do the same with MAGA, but with Trump and his inner circle in control, they are much less likely to succeed. Trump is showing the RINOs behind the curtain.
