He didn’t change anything is the point. He’s no different than the others. Put another way, he’s no Donald Trump.
If Trump didn’t say anything, this would be a non-issue. At some point, MAGA needs to become a real movement beyond Trump, and not primarily a cult of personality.
While Trump still has one run left, he also needs to have a heir apparent. By attacking perceived competition, he limits MAGAs future success.
