Forgive the multiple posts as I individually address each wonderful soul who offered condolences.
Thank every one of you for your outreach with kind words, virtual hugs, and stories of your lost and much-loved pets. I know you completely understand how gut-wrenching it is. You can’t imagine how loved these two dogs were by the whole neighbourhood. They were always walked without leashes and were smart and obedient in all the ways that mattered. They waited at the corner and looked at me until I gave the “Okay, go!” to cross the street and they never tried to do their business on neighbours’ yards. They ran up to everyone, tails wagging, happy to say their hellos without jumping up on people or barking.
Zeus senses the grief and has been very comforting. Today, when I walk him alone, I hope I don’t run into any neighbours because they’re sure to ask where Jewel is. I tear up all over again at the thought of having to answer that question. She was buried this morning in the field behind our yard with Maverick and Hollywood, two previously much-loved dogs. That’s the only fault of most dogs or pets - that they’re with us for too short a time. Yesterday was a tough day with this loss and the much-anticipated red wave that, so far, hasn’t materialized because of the huge amount of cheating that was done.
