“...but grace and balance are also athletic skills, and women excel at that.”

They may excel at that, but is it that that is bringing in the new fan base? The increase of big muscular women that will hit other competitors is what is creating the growth. They had grace before they had goons and the leagues failed a couple of times.

Basketball:
WBL-Women’s Pro Basketball League (1978–81)
ABL-American Basketball League III (1996–1998)
WABA-Women’s American Basketball Association (1993–1995) (2002)

Soccer:
Women’s United Soccer Association, (1999)
Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS, 2009–2011;
Women’s United Soccer Association (WUSA, 2001–2003)

Baseball:
All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, (1943-1954)

There are more, but the one major difference is that the league competing today are trying to compete as men’s rules and not women’s. Also take a look at the advantages given to women in their leagues. Shorter tees in golf. A smaller ball in basketball and a shorter 3-point line. Additionally when women compete directly with men in contact sports they have failed. And when they are required to use the men’s tee blocks in pro golf, not one women has ever made the cut on Friday.

And a lot of the sports mentioned as being able to stay afloat is because they are Olympic sports and are financially backed by the federal government or private investing firms to compete for the US getting television revenue or a piece of the t-shirts and hats. Professional sports is a business and winning is the major fact of success. To win, you have to be bigger, stronger, faster, and the length and density of bones is a real assistance. Women, have grace to look good, but they don’t have the physical attributes to compete against men peers at that level.

But I was shocked to see how big the crowds Womens Soccer gets in Europe now.
