Women’s sports are increasingly easier to find on TV as more broadcasters invest in its growth — and now there’s a 24/7 dedicated network.
FAST Studios launched the Women’s Sports Network on Wednesday offering more than 1,000 hours of content, including documentaries. “But I was shocked to see how big the crowds Womens Soccer gets in Europe now.”
It’s a growing process that is finally taking off. Soccer has been in the spotlight in Europe for over 100 years and is the main sport observed except for winter sports which many times are limited in fan capacity.
But the main recent changes to the sport has been the growing interest in women’s soccer from the men’s side of the sport. There has been a lot of sharing of training facilities to save money and even times when the women’s teams were being purchased by men’s team owners. The first of that in 2019 when Spanish giants Real Madrid purchased Deportivo Tacon, a Madrid-based women’s team founded in 2014, following longstanding criticism for not having a women’s side. Women were getting vocal so it created a market. But it was a separate game and was marketed well with the increase of television revenues and t-shirt sales. So as the money progressed, so did the capacity of being seen more seriously than just grace and beauty. They aren’t as fast, strong, or powerful as the men. But they supply entertainment and profit with their increase in popularity. However, they are not there to compete with the men for sport dominance, just fill a gap. And it all has to do with violence and profit.
