Thank you for the info. There’s no way I would enter Canada. It’s an authoritarian country now.
Once our current dog has passed we will travel. It’s a few years off. But then I will see the world that I wish too. I need to go back to Germany, see Italy for my Italian wife, Scotland, Iceland. France only to see WW1 battlegrounds. The rest can bog off.

I should have made a distinction between land crossings and air entry. Air carriers may be governed by the TSA, while land crossings into the US are staffed by CBP, which falls under Homeland Security I think. I can tell you with 100% certainty that discretion is being exercised by staff in both jurisdictions. It would be imprudent to say more.
