House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy has won his party's nomination for speaker, beating conservative challenger Rep. Andy Biggs in a 188-31 vote, according to multiple sources in the room.
It was a secret ballot, and McCarthy only needed a simple majority.

This is the primary or tryouts... it’s a secret ballot. He has to get 218 to win, so enough Democrats would have to reach across the aisle for him to win in January. The Dimbulbs will run their own candidate if I have my facts right, so there won’t be any defections. I believe the proper term is strategery (hat tip to George W Bush) that is taking place right now.
