Usually “affect” is used as a verb.
“Effect” is usually used as a noun.

But, I do believe they are interchangeable, according to your preference. I use the above as a guideline.

Good guideline, I use affect if it has an emotional attachment... personal affects... the eyeliner on the young lady affected the young men which was her desired effect.

Are they interchangeable?

I always remember it by the saying, “The effect affected me.”

I believe people have become accustomed to reading the wrong words in their context.

My pet peeve is, “Me and my friends…..”

Mrs Strople always beat it into my head that when a person is writing, “You always come last.”
