Any legal or 2A experts here who could advise how “Castle Doctrine/Stand your Ground” would apply in this situation?
California may be an outlier, but what about other states?
In a Castle Doctrine state, you are not obligated to retreat from your own property.
Did you feel that you were in imminent danger of death or severe bodily injury? Were you in fear that another person was in imminent danger of death or severe bodily injury?
Then you would most likely be justified in using deadly force to protect yourself or others from imminent danger of death or severe bodily injury, unless and until the threat went away. (You draw and point your weapon, and the perpetrator drops the pickaxe in response, for example.)
