Many years ago, the Catholic church published an encyclical on the subject of free enterprise versus socialism which came down strongly on the side of free enterprise. I wonder if Bono may have been influenced by it.

He isn’t talking about free market capitalism. He is referring to the new “stakeholder” or “inclusive” capitalism. It is just fascism rebranded since “the state” can’t coordinate with business to run the economy in a global marketplace. They are replacing the state with the NGOs and billion dollar multinational corporations to achieve the same end.
Bono has not turned into a good guy or seen the light all of a sudden.

Hypocrite Bono has known that for a long time. It just wasn’t professionally feasible to go there at the time.
Look back to 2006 when U2 moved its music businesses from Ireland to Netherlands to avoid paying higher Irish taxes. At the same time, asking Ireland to do more in helping underdeveloped countries.
But that was with OPM (Other people’s money)
Smart business move for U2, but not in line with how he lectured others.
