A quick update from Michigan:

I attended another poll challenger training event early this week for a different county than mine. As usual, I got there a minute or two late and let my Captain guide me to a good seat (some silly people have t-shirts that read “God is my co-pilot”. With me I ask Him to drive, but He lets me take the wheel every now and then).

Of the ~50 people there, I only know two of the three people running the training; one pretty well as he was one of the last remaining republicans left in the TCF center in Detroit during the steal of 2020. I introduce myself to a couple of the ladies at my table, then kick back a bit to watch. But while waiting to start, the Bagster side of my personality kicks in and I start mentioning some of the Q items here and there. Next thing I know there’s another table nearby overhearing my banter and start chuckling at some of my comments.

The organization running the training is pretty up on their stuff, but training is open to Democrats as well as Republicans. The trainers have some trouble for about 20 minutes trying to get both audio and video of the laptop video in sync, so I jump up front to fill in the time gap so they can concentrate on getting someone to figure out the mixer behind the stage. Having worked with a great local grassroots at least once a week for better than a year and a half, I’m finding I now have a little bit more knowledge of what’s going on with regards to Michigan election items.

“While they’re working on the audio, I thought I’d give some personal experience with working the poll challenging at TCF. I wasn’t there in 2020, but in getting involved in fixing things I did go down there for primaries in August of 2021 to get my feet wet on the process. The biggest thing I noticed is that there were a lot of other poll challengers trying to look at my ID tag and figure out if I was a part of their team or not. When your tag reads that you’re from a newer group that doesn’t identify a specific political party, it throws them for a loop for some reason.

“I always figured we’re just out for an honest election. Apparently not everyone’s on the same page. Be aware of that regardless of where you go to poll challenge.”

They finally got the AV problem figured out and the training goes on. However they also include what strongarm tactics the “private security” used in 2020 to eject conservatives while leaving the liberal challengers. For example if you violated the 6’ COVID rule they just made up (not legally enforceable), the GS (goon squad) removed you. If you raise your voice, you’re “interfering with the election” and the GS removed you.

None of this was legal, but they just outright had a plan for removing all the conservatives long enough to do the steal. Feel free to see some of the items here:

Well to try and make a long story shorter, by the end of the night I found that I was at the same table as a couple of local republican canvassing board members, one of which was voted out of the republican position for having “pushed back against false allegations of election fraud.” (NPR article). By the end of the night we were getting along pretty well and I was enlightening her on some of the GAW items (which she had now heard about before the meeting).

The training went about an hour longer than scheduled, and about 15 people had already bailed before the end due to a lot of questions. Couldn’t help myself towards the end and I was picked for a last question. I stood up to make sure I had everyones attention from the people left.

“You guys look around at some of the people that have left already, and need to understand this: This is your moment. Your kids, your grandkids will be looking to you to hang tough here. Phil here spent 40 hours doing poll challenging at TCF in 2020. You’re making history at this point in time. Approach this job with the grit you need to stay as long as it takes to get the job done.”

Just thought I’d share. I won’t even get into the priest I talked to Up North (a near sacred phrase for some of us in Michigan), who actually knew some of the things going on behind the scenes. He now has a cheat sheet from me and doing further research. Oh, I guess I did get into it. There’s that inner Bagster again.
