No worries - it’s supposedly missing - this new Russian sub. That is, we don’t know where it is. Which I suspect is misinformation, but maybe not.
A quick submarine story from another friend at work - picture yourself submerged somewhere north of Norway or Russia, in the Barents Sea. You’re in your rack, sleeping. Suddenly, you find yourself, head crushed up against the top of the bunk, sub is diving fast and the announcement is “Torpedo in the water!!!”.
Situation as described to me by my friend - he was on the attack Sub USS Archerfish (not the one that sunk the Japanese carrier, a newer one). Seems like a pretty hairy situation, but the back/forth games that the US and Russian military have played for decades was undoubtedly part of this little charade.
God bless the men and women who have repeatedly placed their lives on the line in service to countless 'others', on the ground, in the water, in the air/space, some who never made it home. We humbly honor.
