Interesting, your using the word 'tsunami' ... My impression from my 'source' was that the coastal waters (along the Atlantic?) would inexplicably recede much as they might in a tsunami and that wonder will reveal hidden threats to the U.S. submerged in the ocean. 'Red October' - re: Q - would imply a submarine.
BTW, nuclear attack subs don't just fire torpedoes; they also launch nuclear Cruz missiles. That has been one of our major deterrents, considering the supposed difficulty of tracking submerged vessels. However, the Bitem Administration has just announced that they are phasing out our sea-launched-nuclear-missile-program.
Next I suppose that they will announce the 'mothballing' of our aircraft carrier force. De-fence will become only what we need at our southern border.
Well, this submarine is unique - not maybe in the sense that our SSBN type nukes are, but a different way. The tsunami thing, I think, was one of the “features” of this type of large nuclear torpedo. Supposedly, a 100 megaton torpedo could engulf the entire east coast in a huge tidal wave. If the hype is to be believed (I would think that Moscow would be seriously leveled simultaneously, by a swarm of warheads from several directions) if that were to happen.
I’ve a couple of co-workers that spent some time on subs (and one flat-top guy on my shift, or as he calls it, “target”). A very good friend of mine, who has since passed on, served on the USS Alabama, SSBN 731. It was definitely stealthy and able to take out some big targets. Nuclear-capable subs are, IMHO, one of our best tools of defense and a deterrent to all attackers. I don’t think there’s a square inch on the surface of the earth that we can’t reach with them.

If he things that getting rid of our nuclear missile-equipped submarines is a good idea, well - he’s on someone’s side and it ain’t ours. But I think we already know that he’s not on America’s side.
