LOL. I do think liver has an odd flavor ( I describe as bitter) it should not have if not soaked in milk..never tried buttermilk.

Last of the liver slide: what’s this stuff about cooking it with butter on top of onions? Caramelize onions, remove them from pan and set aside, add some peanut oil and dredge the liver in peppered flour, then fry it up in the same pan, when done ( a-few minutes on each side, I never timed it) , remove the liver put it on a serving plate and top it with the onions.

I think your method is what I imagine when I think of liver and onions. I would have to try the other method though. Luby’s Cafeteria makes good liver and onions. I have some in the freezer I need to cook. Now I know how.
