Australian mining company, Antilles Gold Ltd, thrilled by its gold and antimony deal with Cuban dictatorship
Excerpt:
Australian-based mining company Antilles Gold became a partner of Geo Minera SA, Cuba’s state-owned mining company five years ago. Since then, this mining company has become a joint venture (JV) partner with Castro, Inc.’s GeoMinera (49:51) to create Minera La Victoria SA, with the aim of establishing a substantial mining business.
Antilles Gold hopes to strike it rich at its La Demajagua open-pit mine at Isla de Pinos, Cuba. And you can bet Castro, Inc. is even more thrilled than the Aussies.
Brian Johnson, executive chair of Antilles Gold says: “The mining sector is being promoted very aggressively by the Cuban government to foreign investors. They’ve got a great foreign investment law, good mining law, good environmental law and GeoMinera as a partner to help us fast track projects.”
So, Canadians get the cobalt and Australians get the gold and antimony. Once again, the foreign vultures circle over Cuban carrion, so to speak, hoping to feast upon minerals stolen from their rightful Cuban owners.
Cobalt, gold, and antimony are both essential for the manufacture of batteries and semiconductors. The hands in which these minerals end up is unknown. Canadian and Australian vulture capitalists are quite likely to sell to the highest bidder, be it China, Russia, Iran, or North Korea.
Ka-ching for the vultures! Ka-ching for Castro, Inc.! Never mind those great investment and mining laws mentioned by Mr. Johnson, and especially Castro, Inc.’s “environmental laws”… And good luck getting your share of the profits, Mr. Johnson. You might want to have a chat with the executives at Sherritt in Toronto.
