There are so many sources. First, Shoigu announced it, but there are many other sources all of which show much higher casualty figures for Ukraine, but don’t provide Russian figures. There are also articles even in the New York Times (two months ago) saying that they checked with all the cemetaries in Russia and death registrations and at that point the figures were 2,000 plus. Though they made the point that not all deaths were registered and they believed that you add to add 50% to the documented figures.

This is my post (9/21) right after Shoigu did his press conference

Hmm... and now Shoigu comes out and announced the up to date casualty figures for both sides. Ukraine has already lost half of its army, 61,207 are dead and 49,368 wounded - Russian Defense Minister Shoigu.

UPDATE: Russian losses stand at 5,937 dead.

Shoigu, yep that’s an impeccable source. The Kremlin is world renown for always telling the truth. /sarc
