Winging it re: l-lysine

Speaking of cats reminds me that a few years ago I was keeping some cats for a family member that moved out of state. Supposed to have been until they got settled and would come back for the cats, but after a few months they moved back here. Anyway, while I was catsitting, one of them had sneezing fits quite often for several days. At one point, she sneezed so hard she fell over. She was ok, but I looked on the internet to see if there was anything I could give her before having to take her to the vet. I gave her l-lysine. I had 500 mg pills on hand. I cut them in half, crushed a half, and put the powder in wet food. She got over the sneezies after a few days and is still alive at about 12 years old now. :)

Yes, indeed. And over the years I’ve found lots of easy, cheap and yet potent and effective remedies for various ailments that the vets don’t know or don’t tell you about. Right now I need to research whether there are feasible homemade diets for urinary tract health, since one of our males blocked - yikes, expensive emergency hospital stay - and the prescription diet foods are ridiculously priced!
