1. It's a fiction that USD (U.S. Dollar) is backed by nothing.
2. That is a convenient "Goldbug" canard (Think of an old, half-demented miner still looking to "Strike it rich" ... or another economically illiterate individual whom I voted for POTUS at least twice, Ron Paul).
3. The actual "Backing" of USD consists of three primary factors:
SECOND: U.S. military, especially the Navy--controlling the sea lanes for petroleum and other commodities.
THIRD (And this one may require a little reflection): Only the USD can be used to pay U.S. taxes. Hence, the business world as well as individuals will always need a lot of them (USD).
