I tend to agree with you. In general, there is no use debating either politics or religion. All that happens is that everyone involved gets defensive, and upset.
And that’s why I usually try to change the subject.
Liberal friend: Trump was a complete disaster.
Me: Who do you think has the best chance to win the Super Bowl this year?
There is, however, one exception to that. If the liberal is not completely close-minded, it’s sometimes worth trying an indirect argument.
Liberal friend: Trump was a complete disaster.
Me: Well, we do need to bring industry back to America.
I’ve actually had liberals end up agreeing with me here: Trump had at least one good idea.
I also try to change the subject. My favorite is bringing up the the similarities and differences between the Apollo and Orion spacecrafts.
